UIN Jakarta Rector: Santris as Contributors to Nation-Building

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hosted Santri Summit 2025, themed "Santris' Contribution to the Nation through the Community of Santri Scholars of Ministry of Religious Affairs (CSSMoRA)," on Sunday (June 29, 2025).

UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., stated in his remarks that santris (Islamic boarding school students) receiving CSSMoRA scholarships are expected to make tangible contributions to the nation. More than just beneficiaries, santris are encouraged to embrace a consciousness of community building and to serve through the Ministry of Religious Affairs as their sponsoring institution.

“Santris are not just students in religious educational institutions; they are also agents of social change who have a moral responsibility to build the nation,” the Rector revealed.

CSSMoRA, he added, is a strategic platform for santris to continually develop in the world of education, especially within UIN Jakarta. He emphasized that the existence of this program should be understood as a form of continuous development to ensure santris are ready to face the challenges of the times while remaining rooted in Islamic values.

“Recipients of the CSSMoRA scholarship are expected to not only excel academically but also possess social concern and a high spirit of service,” he explained.

Furthermore, the Rector stated that Santri Summit 2025 is not merely a gathering but is also expected to be a collaborative and outreach space that reaches a wider community. This event serves as a means to exchange experiences, strengthen networks among santris, and build a shared spirit to grow and progress.

“This is not just a meeting; it is a strategic forum to create ideas, expand relationships, and contribute collectively to the nation's future,” he concluded.

The event, a collaboration involving UIN Jakarta's Community of Santri Scholars of Ministry of Religious Affairs (CSSMoRA), Youtz Media, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, was attended by a number of national figures, academics, and dozens of young influencers and content creators from various fields.
