Realizing Green Campus Commitment, UIN Jakarta Receives Donation of 100 Electric Bicycles

Rectorate Building, UIN News Online – As part of implementing the Green Campus program, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta received a donation of 100 electric bicycles to support reducing dependence on fossil fuels within the campus environment. The handover ceremony took place during a cooperation signing event in the AUK Bureau Room on Friday (May 16, 2025).

The donation was directly handed over by a Member of the Indonesian Parliament from the NasDem Party faction, Prof. Dr. H. Furtasan Ali Yusuf, S.E., S.Kom., M.M., who expressed his commitment to the environmental preservation program initiated by UIN Jakarta.

The ceremony was attended by UIN Jakarta’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Cooperation, Dr. Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., along with other university leaders. The Rector expressed his appreciation for the donation, considering it aligned with UIN Jakarta’s commitment to creating an environmentally friendly and sustainable campus.

“The provision of these electric bicycles is very beneficial in supporting the mobility of UIN Jakarta’s academic community without adding to carbon emissions. This is a concrete step toward a green campus free of pollution,” said Prof. Asep.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. H. Furtasan Ali Yusuf, S.E., S.Kom., M.M., stated that this donation is part of a commitment to support environmentally friendly transportation, especially in educational environments.

“I hope these electric bicycles will be used as effectively as possible as a real contribution to supporting the Green Campus program launched at UIN Jakarta. Hopefully, they will be well maintained and properly inventoried by the university,” he explained.

The Head of UIN Jakarta’s Green Campus Development Center, Prof. Dr. Hendrawati, M.Si., also attended the event. She emphasized that UIN Jakarta continues to strive to uphold its commitment to the principles of a sustainable campus, including reducing the use of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.

“The use of electric bicycles is a concrete step in supporting an environmentally friendly lifestyle among the academic community,” she explained.

The donated electric bicycles will be used for internal operational needs within the campus under a scheme currently being prepared by the university. The Green Campus program at UIN Jakarta has been running since 2023, covering various initiatives such as reducing motor vehicle use, energy efficiency, water conservation, and tree planting on campus. With the addition of electric bicycles, UIN Jakarta hopes to accelerate the achievement of its green campus targets.
